SINGAPORE GP LAP-BY-LAP

SINGAPORE GP LAP-BY-LAP

Hamilton en route to his third-place finish.

FINISH: Please join us again in two weeks' time for the Japanese GP

FINISH: Well done to Fernando Alonso and Renault

FINISH: Heidfeld, Coulthard, Nakajima complete the points while Felipe Massa crosses the line in 13th place

FINISH: Nico Rosberg is second ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock and Seb Vettel

FINISH: And the double world champion crosses the line to win the inaugural Singapore GP

Lap 61: Alonso comes round to complete the final few miles of the 2008 Singapore GP

Lap 60: Rosberg is on for his best result in F1. He has a P3 but not a second place to his name

Lap 59: This will be Alonso's 20th win if he holds on

Lap 58: And Raikkonen ruins Ferrari's race completely, putting his car into the wall

Lap 57: Coulthard is pulling away from Nakajima and should take the final points-paying position

Lap 56: Alonso holds a six-second lead and looks set to put Renault back on the podium

Lap 55: Hamilton is right behind Rosberg but is not able to find a way through. The same goes for Raikkonen with Glock

Lap 54: Nakajima is fighting Coulthard for eighth place but the Scot holds on

Lap 54: Alonso leads with Rosberg, Hamilton, Glock and Raikkonen behind him

Lap 54: And we are back racing

Lap 53: Race Control: Kerb is damaged at the exit of Turn 7. Safety Car is in end of this lap

Lap 52: Trulli looks rather worn out as he's handed a cold cloth while sitting in the Toyota garage

Lap 51: Sutil crashes into the barriers, bringing out the Safety Car as Trulli parks his car, calling it quits

Lap 51: And with that Raikkonen pits. He comes out in fifth place

Lap 50: Raikkonen has closed up on Rosberg. They are fighting over second place with just half a second between the two drivers

Lap 49: Barring any mistakes this is Alonso's race to win. He's 17s ahead of second-placed Rosberg

Lap 48: Coulthard has informed his team that his brakes aren't all that great

Lap 47: Glock pits the Toyota from second

Lap 46: Raikkonen is up to fourth place, just ahead of Hamilton. However, the Ferrari driver still needs to stop

Lap 45: Vettel and Heidfeld pit

Lap 44: Hamilton and Coulthard both come in for their second stops. Hamilton gets out ahead of Coulthard, who tries to pull away that little bit too soon and has to brake. Nakajima pits

Lap 43: So Alonso comes out in the lead, forcing Coulthard to brake, which allows Hamilton to close right up on him. Alonso passes him for second place

Lap 42: Renault mechanics are preparing for the race leader. Alonso pits. He stops for 7.6s and comes out ahead of the Coulthard/Hamilton battle

Lap 41: Rosberg comes in from second place. Great race from the Williams driver even though he had a stop-go penalty. He comes out in seventh place

Lap 40: Sutil pits from 11th place

Lap 39: Raikkonen overhauls Trulli and is up into ninth place

Lap 38: Nakajima overtakes Trulli and Raikkonen immediately closes in on the back of the Toyota driver

Lap 37: Hamilton is touring in fourth place, just behind Coulthard

Lap 36: Raikkonen is stuck behind the Honda of Jenson Button, fighting for 10th place. Button pits, freeing up Raikkonen

Lap 35: Massa overtakes Bourdais for 16th place. From greatness to glumness

Lap 34: Bourdais and Kubica pit

Lap 33: Trulli pits from the lead and comes out in eighth place. Alonso is leading now

Lap 32: So in a surprise move Jarno Trulli is leading the grand prix by 10.6s over Alonso

Lap 31: Kubica overtakes Massa for 15th place and Massa then pits moments later

Lap 30: Webber pits to retire his car. He parks it in the garage

Lap 30: Fisichella pits from second place. He stills for 13.1s

Lap 29: Hamilton looks up the inside of Coulthard but passing isn't all that easy here this evening

Lap 28: Rosberg serves his penalty

Lap 27: Kubica comes in for his penalty

Lap 26: Alonso is informed that Fisi will have to stop in the next four laps and that Rosberg and Kubica have stop-go penalties. This will leapfrog Alonso to the front

Lap 25: Kubica and Rosberg's penalties are also confirmed

Lap 25: Massa immediately takes his penalty. When it rains it pours

Lap 25: Massa has been handed a drive-through penalty for unsafe release after Ferrari sent him out into Sutil's path

Lap 24: Glock and Kubica are under investigation for pitting when the pit lane was closed

Lap 23: A disappointed Barrichello throws his racing gloves into the river rather than the crowd

Lap 22: Race control: Incident involving car 2 (Felipe Massa) is under investigation

Lap 21: Kubica in fourth place is in line for a 10-second stop-go for fuelling while the pits are closed

Lap 20: Ferrari have really suffered. Massa has gone from first to last and Raikkonen has gone from third to 16th

Lap 19: Safety Car comes in and we are back to racing. Massa, who was the race leader prior to the Safety Car, is now last

Lap 18: Rosberg is now leading the race, although he will get a penalty for pitting while Trulli is second, followed by Fisichella

Lap 17: Massa was also released into Sutil's path! So he could yet get a penalty for that

Lap 17: Massa has driven off with the fuel hose attached to his car! That's his race wrecked. Ferrari mechanics are running up to his car but they can't get the hose out. It's stuck! What a mess, an absolute mess. They finally get it out but that's Massa's race pretty much over

Lap 17: Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen and pretty much everyone else has pitted

Lap 17: Pit lane is now open!

Lap 17: Marshals are pushing Barrichello's car out of the way while others are sorting out the craning of Piquet's wrecked Renault

Lap 17: Kubica is pitting! He will be penalised for pitting when the pit lane is closed

Lap 17: One of the Hondas, it's Barrichello, has stopped out on track

Lap 16: While Webber, DC and Barrichello all pitted seconds before the Safety Car came out, Rosberg has pitted under the Safety Car and therefore will be handed a penalty

Lap 15: The Brazilian spun his R28, putting it into the wall. Heavy damage but he climbs unaided from his car

Lap 15: Piquet Jr has crashed heavily at Turn 17!

Lap 14: Bourdais finds him up an escape route and has to throw a U-turn to make his way back onto the track

Lap 13: Massa now sets a new fastest lap time, a 1:45.757

Lap 13: Alonso pits from 11th place. The Spaniard stops for 9.5s and rejoins in last place

Lap 12: Alonso has made his way be Trulli and is up into 11th place. The Spaniard was quickest in two of the weekend's three practice sessions

Lap 11: And now it's a 1:45.764 from Raikkonen. He has definitely found the pace that has been lacking of late. He's seven-tenths up on Hamilton per lap

Lap 10: The two Force India drivers are the final two on track with Adrian Sutil just ahead of Fisichella

Lap 10: He goes even quicker the next lap as he tries to close the gap to Hamilton and Massa

Lap 9: Raikkonen sets a new fastest lap time, a 1:46.115

Lap 8: Nakajima has made his way passed Trulli

Lap 8: Massa could run into problems as the Ferrari driver - and race leader - has caught a piece of debris under his front wing. This could affect the grip

Lap 7: Rosberg finally overtakes Trulli in a spray of sparks and burning rubber as he looks up. But he gets the position

Lap 7: There is a bit of debris on the track, bringing out the yellow flags at that point. It looks like tubing of some sort

Lap 6: Brilliant view as Massa storms over the bumps along the track, sending up sparks from the bottom of his Ferrari. Great sight

Lap 5: Rosberg looks up the inside of Trulli again through Turn 1 but can't stick a move

Lap 4: Rosberg tries to take Trulli, but misses the apex and cuts the chicane, leaving Trulli to hold onto ninth place

Lap 3: Massa is the fastest man on track, clocking a 1:46.539

Lap 3: Massa and Hamilton are in a race of their own. The duo are five seconds ahead of Raikkonen

Lap 2: Trulli is holding up a train of cars that includes Rosberg, Nakajima, Alonso, Webber and Button

Lap 2: Alonso is already up to 12th place from 15th thanks to those softer option tyres

Lap 1: Great start from Massa who leads from pole with title rival Hamilton going defensive to keep his eye on Raikkonen. Kovalainen is overtaken by Glock but the McLaren driver fights back at Turn 7. The Toyota comes back at him though through Turn 8

START: And it's go in Singapore!

13h03: The drivers reform on the grid ready for the start of F1's first ever night race

13h02: The two Ferraris and McLarens are on the harder option tyres as is most of the field except Fernando Alonso

13h00: The formation lap is under way

12h57: Drivers are ready for the start of the formation lap

12h55: Overhead shots of the track prove just what an amazing spectacle tonight's race really is

12h53: The drivers are climbing into their cars and getting last-minute instructions from team personnel

12h47: Fisichella is starting from the pit lane after his disappointing Saturday

12h45: Pit lane is now closed

12h43: BMW are using dry ice to keep their cars cool while Bernie Ecclestone walks the grid with a bunch of dignitaries

12h40: The air temperature is 27 degrees Celsius while the track temp is 32. It is not raining!

12h37: Track marshals are scrubbing the area, hoping to get rid of the water

12h36: Race control message: Water on the run-off area at Turn 23

12h35: Felipe Massa will be making his way to the pole-position slot when he heads out. The Ferrari driver grabbed the coveted grid slot by 0.66s ahead of Lewis Hamilton. However, Massa is thought to be carrying a lighter fuel load

12h30: The pit lane is open, which means the drivers now have 15 minutes to make their way onto the grid

12h20: Then there is the pit lane. This has already caused much confusion this weekend with drivers pitting using the racing line. So expect a few near misses

12h15: The track has raised some concerns as the drivers fear the bumps at Turn 10 could pitch them into the wall. This already happened to Giancarlo Fisichella on Saturrday - and not once but twice

12h10: The race is starting at 8pm local time, which means the route will be artificially lit by 1,600 spotlights, making it four-times brighter than the average sport's stadium

12h05: This race marks a piece of Formula One history as it will be the first time that a grand prix is held at night

12h00: Welcome to coverage of the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, which will run through the streets of the MarinaBay area
